Sony holds the lead in the mobile image sensor market

Despite the Covid-19 pandemic last year, the mobile image sensor market managed to generate $ 15 billion in total revenue.

According to the Strategy Analytics Handset Component Technologies service report, the global mobile image sensor market grew 13% year-on-year. Sony maintained its top position with a 46% revenue share. Next up are Samsung System LSI, which has a 29% revenue share, and OmniVision Technologies, which has a 10% revenue share.

Strategy Analytics believes Samsung, OmniVision and SK Hynix threaten their market advantage as Sony lost Huawei as a customer due to US trade restrictions. Going forward, the expansion of multiple cameras and the focus on smartphone camera functions will accelerate the growth of the mobile image sensor market. However, a global chip shortage could hurt phone shipments this year and could continue until the second quarter of 2022.
