Niantic will host an additional Pokemon Go event after players do a free Kanto tour

You’re going to get another chance to catch those nasty glows!

Last weekend, Niantic hosted the Pokemon Go international event “Kanto Tour” to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the Pokemon franchise. This was a paid event, but it cost a lot of US $ 11.99 to attend. Forking the cash gave me access to the Kanto generation of Pokemon celebrations, but some lucky players were free to attend.

The event started at 9am in New Zealand and Australia. At this point, players began to notice that they suddenly became accessible without paying a penny. This exploit wasn’t discovered by Niantic until much later, as these were earlier timezones than anyone else. Obviously, the players who actually paid to attend the event (consisting of a day’s worth of play time) remained a bit lacking.

In response, Niantic has promised players to hold a special “bonus event” to supplement things, but has not provided details on what this event will look like. The event also had other issues that frustrated players. For example, games that required you to enter a remote raid for a period of time with only a local raid pass, or a sudden influx of players from around the world caused a lot of lag.

What are the big rewards for the event? Shiny same as above, and the first of its kind. Players had to process a dense list of tasks and issues to reach it. Therefore, 12 hours of playtime was required. The Kanto tour also offered the opportunity to get a shiny version of Kanto Pokemon. Some of them have never been released before. It’s like pork collectors don’t get in the way. Players also had the chance to catch the shiny Mew, but had to grind a challenging list that included catching about 500 Pokemon. Wow.
