Tesla’s full self-driving beta software is now available to everyone in North America, Elon Musk said early Thursday.
“Tesla Full Self-Driving Beta is now available to anyone in North America who has requested it from their car screen, assuming they have purchased this option.
Tesla did not respond to a request for comment.
Musk said last month that Tesla’s advanced driver assistance software won’t get regulatory approval in 2022.
Musk hopes to deliver the latest version of fully autonomous driving (FSD) in 2023 to show regulators that the technology is far safer than the average human driver.
A Silicon Valley automaker sells a $15,000 FSD software add-on that enables vehicles to change lanes and park autonomously. This complements the standard ‘autopilot’ feature, allowing the car to steer, accelerate and brake within its lane without driver intervention.
Tesla, which has been criticized for testing unfinished technology on public roads, is also under investigation by the U.S. Department of Justice over claims that its electric vehicles can drive themselves, Reuters reported in October.
