SINGAPORE: A Singaporean man has been charged with smothering a 3-month-old girl to death with a pillow.
Defendant Mustaqim Rosli, 31, faces one count of causing the death of a child under the age of 14. The incident allegedly occurred at a flat on Bukit Batok West Avenue 9 around 12:50 am on December 3, last year.
According to court documents, the defendant placed a pillow over the baby girl’s face, placed his hand on the pillow, and choked the child.
Court documents did not explain the relationship between the accused and the baby girl, but noted that they were from the same family and had frequent contact.
The newly formed public defender’s office has arranged for lawyers to represent the defendants, who are expected to appear in court again next month. If convicted, Mustakim Rosri could face up to 20 years in prison and a fine or flogging.
