SM Entertainment’s new girl group aespa is a hot topic being discussed in the Kpop world. After a series of controversies, SM not only announced a new girl group, but also introduced two of its members. Netizens believe that Yoo Jimin, who was at the center of the controversy a week ago, is one member.
SM Entertainment introduced two members of aespa with an avatar-like concept. The first member of aespa is winter. The first appearance shows winter with soft shades of pink, purple and blue and wavy hair. According to media reports, Winter’s original name is Kim Min Jung. She is said to have been a SM Entertainment trainee for three years.
The second member revealed is Karina. More than winter, Karina is attracting the attention of netizens because she resembles Yu Jimin. According to various reports, including Kprofiles, Karina was actually Yoo Jimin, a four-year SM Entertainment trainee. Unlike other aespa members, Jimin was well known in the industry even before his debut. She appeared in Taemin’s music video “Want”. She is also known as former Ulzzang. She also covered BLACKPINK’s Boombayah and HyunA’s Bubble Pop at the 2016 Hansol Festival.
The other two members, although not officially introduced, are said to be Chinese-based singer Ning Ning and Japanese singer Aeri. Netizens now appreciate the way SM introduces new group members with its own concept. However, speculation that Karina is Yu Jimin has also received negative comments even before Espa’s debut.
Aespa has also released Karina’s virtual avatar. A video of Karina talking to her virtual avatar called ae-Karina became a hot topic on social media. Netizens speculate that this group may also include members’ virtual avatars.
What is the Yoo Jimin Controversy?
A personal message claiming to have been exchanged between Yu Jimin and her friend was posted online, showing the latter in bad light. According to the message, Jimin insulted members of the Kpop group NCT, EXO, and BTS. The message claimed that she was ugly calling BTS’s RM and Jimin and talked badly about NCT and EXO along with her own agency SM Entertainment.
However, these messages were said to be fake. Her agency, SM Entertainment, issued a statement stating that the company is taking legal action against netizens who attempted to slander trainees with unfounded accusations.
Shortly thereafter, there was news that SM Entertainment would introduce a new girl group, and Yoo Jimin was a member of that group. Authorities haven’t disclosed it, but netizens said Karina was Yu Jimin. Karina receives the message of hatred online, even though the agency explained the fake message.
