Also, despite the Covid-19 pandemic, Huawei tripled its HMS team here last year, including operations, marketing and technical staff to support Singapore’s app developers.
According to the company, the Changi Business Park lab “utilizes Singapore’s importance as a growing technology hub in the Asia-Pacific region” to boost the region-wide mobile ecosystem.

HMS has been around for years and has its own app store called App Gallery, which was launched in China in 2011 and worldwide in 2018.
DigiX Lab in Singapore is Huawei’s second lab in the world. The company said the first was launched in Germany and the other six are in the pipeline.
Singapore Labs serves markets with the most registered Huawei developers in the Asia Pacific region, including Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, Philippines, Indonesia and Hong Kong.

According to the company, the number of newly registered Huawei developers has also increased by 143% in Singapore, with more than 90% of Singapore’s top apps compatible with HMS.
These include WhatsApp, Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, LinkedIn, Telegram, Line and Dropbox.
Local apps include TraceTogether, ComfortDelGro, DBS, UOB, The Straits Times, and Lianhe Zaobao apps. The latest app added at the end of last month was the Grab app. The government SingPass app will be available shortly earlier this year.
The number of HMS users is also increasing. In February of last year, there were more than 570 million users worldwide in 170 countries and territories. As of the end of December last year, this number had grown to 700 million users.
Another way Huawei supports developers other than DigiX Labs is to set up a tech team in the major Asia Pacific markets since last year to reduce the cost of porting apps for HMS and potential market reach jitter. Includes helping interested app developers.
