Former Eneos chairman Sugimori asks to resign over allegations of harassment

TOKYO: Eneos Holdings said in a statement released Wednesday that it had asked former chairman Osamu Sugimori to resign after allegations of harassment came to light.

The oil and metals company posted a strong first quarter, but Sugimori abruptly resigned in August for personal reasons.

Public broadcaster NHK on Wednesday quoted Eneos as saying Sugimori had sexually harassed a woman in July.

Eneos, Japan’s largest oil refiner, investigated the allegations against Sugimori, without alleging the harassment was sexual in nature, concluded that Sugimori “engaged in inappropriate behavior,” and resigned. It said in a statement that
