Apple reportedly cut production of the iPhone 13 due to a lack of chips

Apple is expected to lower its production target for the iPhone 13 lineup.

People aware of the issue told Bloomberg that Apple could cut orders for the iPhone 13 by 10 million due to a global chip shortage. The original plan was to produce 90 million units this year, but Broadcom and Texas Instruments (TI) are having difficulty supplying enough components. Sources claim that one important TI chip is missing to power the OLED display.

Consumers are already facing extended delivery times for the iPhone 13 as the Covid-19 continues to confuse Apple’s suppliers in Vietnam. In addition, regular power outages across China put iPhone production at risk in the next quarter. Apple CEO Tim Cook and CFO Luca Maestri have already predicted supply constraints affecting the iPhone and iPad in the fourth quarter, but are confident that there will be “very strong double-digit growth.”
