The AMD Radeon RX 6700 XT is in the midst of a global GPU shortage, with promising performance that fits snugly between the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 Ti and RTX 3070. It is the successor to the Radeon RX 5700 XT and is built on 2nd generation RDNA. 2 architectures. With the Navi 22 GPU core, which is basically a reduced version of the Navi 21 found in the Radeon RX 6800 XT, the Radeon RX 6700 XT makes the RDNA 2 slightly more affordable at $ 479.

That said, it’s still a relatively high-end card, and anyone looking for a truly affordable 1080p game with AMD’s latest architecture needs to wait a bit longer.

As an RDNA 2 card, it has 96MB of Infinity Cache, more memory, faster clock speeds, and of course Ray Accelerators. Infinity Cache was first introduced in RDNA2 as a way to avoid the need for a wider, more power-consuming memory bus without sacrificing memory bandwidth. This advantage is evident in the Radeon RX 6700 XT, which has a narrower memory bus width of 192 bits compared to the 256 bits of the Radeon RX 5700 XT. Also, despite the significantly faster clock speed, the total board power increased by just 5W to 230W. This shows that AMD has improved power efficiency with RDNA2.

The amount of VRAM is also one of the headline features. The Radeon RX6700XT has 12GB of GDDR6 memory compared to the 8GB of the GeForce RTX 3070.

Last but not least are Ray Accelerators, who debuted in RDNA 2 and helped bring ray tracing hardware support to AMD. That said, the Radeon RX 6700 XT comes with just 40 ray accelerators. This is a conservative number that is not included in the higher layers of ray tracing cards.

The Radeon RX 6700 XT also supports PCIe 4.0, so if you’re using an AMD 500 series motherboard and Ryzen 5000 processor, you can take advantage of smart access memory to improve performance slightly.

Elsewhere, AMD has also discontinued blower-style coolers, which are usually preferred for outdoor designs that operate cooler and quieter. The reference card complies with a reasonably compact dual-slot design, only 267 mm long. With 6-pin and 8-pin connectors, unlike NVIDIA’s GeForce RTX 3000 Series Founders Edition cards, regular power connectors continue to work. However, compared to the Radeon RX 6800 XT, the Radeon RX 6700 XT has two axial fans instead of three and supports zero RPM fan mode to reduce noise.

The Radeon RX 6000 series is a real design improvement from the previous generation, and the card now boasts a large die-cast aluminum frame to improve structural rigidity. AMD is also discussing PCB design. This is clearly a 10-layer PCB with 2 layers of copper, with 9-phase voltage regulation to maintain card stability.
