SINGAPORE – A 61-year-old man has been charged with possessing an offensive weapon in public.
On Friday night, police received a call about a man who allegedly set fire to a house in Lolong 1 Toa Payoh, police said in a statement on Sunday. He was also said to have been armed with a 39 cm long knife.
When police arrived, the man allegedly charged at them, brandishing a knife.
Officers had to use a Taser device to disarm the man because he refused to follow orders to stop his aggressive behavior. In the end, officers had to use force to subdue the man.
A Swiss Army knife and a hammer were also seized from the man.
The statement said the police will not tolerate acts of violence that threaten the safety of people and officers performing their duties. Police will not hesitate to take action against those who blatantly disregard the law, he added.
